I've had the honor to work with a great innovative drum accessory company called Cympad. They make these great cymbal dampeners that help focus the tone of my cymbals. They recently added me to their website's artist page! Check it out here: http://www.cympad.com/62/Artists.html

1 Year Mark in LA

Los Angeles... what a town. Its been a year since I've been here... and 100 gigs later, I've finally realized why I moved here. It's a hustle. It's a way of life. And I'm so down with it. Here is an update on what I've been doing lately...

Last night, I got to perform with one of the most talented young people I know out here... George Watsky. His famous video "Pale Kid Raps Fast" became a viral sensation on YouTube. I put together some musicians for his backing band on a pilot television presentation at The Comedy Central Stage at The Hudson, and they show was nothing short of incredible. Keep on the lookout for this guy, because chances are, you will hear about him!

There are two bands I'm playing in that have CD's being released very soon! Layla Lane has their CD release show at The Mint this coming Saturday night. I got to do a quick trip up to San Francisco and back with them last weekend for a festival date... they are fantastic musicians, songwriters, and performers.

Also releasing a new album is the rock n roll sensation Ground Zero. It's been an amazing experience releasing a fully independent, do-it-yourself album. Finally, we are coming down the home stretch with this self-titled 6-song EP which is currently being mastered at Studio City Sound. GZ openend for Steel Panther at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip last week... what a night that was!

You can also check out this in-studio video that I played drums on with singer-songwriter Amy Kuney...

Keep an eye out on my Gigs page... September is already filling up! I'm also teaching drum lessons in the Northridge/Van Nuys area.

Until next time. -Cameron

The Culver City Jam Session

Once I arrived in LA, one of my goals was to start a weekly jam session for all of my friends and new musicians I meet around town. Thankfully, my goal has become a reality.

Introducing THE CULVER CITY JAM, a jam session that happens every Monday from noon-4pm in Culver City at my friend's garage. I recently started a website for the jam where I've been blogging about each meeting. I've gathered a pretty solid amount of content over the past few months, so it would mean a lot if you checked out the site HERE

We also have a Twitter account where I do some posts as well, live from the jam session: FOLLOW @CulverCityJam on TWITTER!

I've been gathering email addresses for the mailing list, so if you would like to be added to the list, please email CulverCityJam@gmail.com

Thanks!! -Cameron

NAMM week... what a crazy time. I was so happy to get to hang with all my people at Sabian, DW, and more. I even saw Stevie Wonder do a demo at the Rhodes booth... it was incredible to be in the presence of such a legend.

Anyways, here are some pictures from NAMM, mostly from the Sabian booth. I really enjoyed checking out the new stuff including the OMNI and the Holy China. Special thanks to the wonderful Shirlene Lau from Sabian for the pictures. I have a feeling that this year is going to be represented by this picture:

BIG things in the works for this year. Since moving to LA, its been a whirlwind of incredible music and people. The gigs are starting to pick up, the jams keep getting better and better, and with The NAMM Show right around the corner, things haven't been busier!

I've been blessed to be playing out in LA with some very talented groups and artists. One of them is Preston Smith. He is one of the coolest cats and performers I've ever come across. He asked me to play on Christmas day at the Maui Sugarmill in Tarzana, CA which ended up being a really fun show. That night, I met the very talented Clay Hanna, photographer extrodinare. Here is some stuff he came up with! Contact him at: clayhannaphotography@gmail.com

Thanks again for the gorgeous Tyra Juliette for coming and sitting in with us on vocals!

Thought I'd share a few pictures that my friend Alex Kluft took in a studio in LA that I had the pleasure to hang at recently. The studio musicians on this session were world class. I wasn't playing, but I got to watch some of the best musicians do what they do best.

They were recording a collection of christmas songs for a local LA charity organization... in August. Talk about planning ahead!

Enjoy!

the best blues drummer on the scene today: Tony Braunagel (currently touring with Robert Cray Band)

the control room

some pretty talented people on the session... was an amazing experience getting to see it first hand!

more updates soon guys! also be sure to check out more of Alex's photos, lots of amazing music concert photos on his website: http://akluft.zenfolio.com/

peace.

-Cameron

new SJC snare

whatsup everyone.

here is the final product of the SJC snare that I made before I left for the west coast. It turned out so much sicker than I expected. Some pics for you:

This drum has a lot of history with me. I originally built this drum with my dad back in 2002, and to be honest, we had no idea what we were doing. So we applied the laminate finish, drilled the shell, assembled it, and I used it for a while as an auxilary snare. When I took it to SJC, we decided it could use a refresher... so we stripped the drum, filled the holes, redrilled it, and made the drum brand new. Very happy with the outcome!

Here are the specs on it:

Size: 10"x6"

Shell: Keller Maple 20ply, 2 plys of vaneer wrap (inside and out)

Finish: Mappa Burl Vaneer with Honey Amber Stain

Hardware: Cast Iron Powdercoat with 7/8" offset Tube Lugs

Extras: Fat Cat Snare Wires, Custom Wood Badge, one 1" Vent

My time interning at SJC has been amazing! Love these dudes!

getting ready for THE WEST COAST!!

Whatuppp everyone.

Its amazing to think that we are already more than half way through year 2010! I've been quite busy doing classes at Emerson College all Spring and Summer long here in Boston. I've really enjoyed living in Cambridge, MA. Its been a great summer so far, done a good amount of traveling, seen some great shows, etc. Also, I must give a great thank you to all of the guys at SJC Custom Drums, where I've been interning since the middle of January. They've opened my eyes to the custom drum industry, and I've had a blast working for them. I'm in the process of renovating a snare drum, which will be done next week, so I'll make sure to post up pics.

ANYWHO, its crunchtime in school right now at Emerson. I'm currently finishing up capstone classes for my Marketing Communications major and Business Studies minor as we speak, lots of papers, projects, presentations, it never ends. Only one week left!

And immediately after my last class on Emerson's Boston campus next Thursday, I'll be jumping in a Budget rental truck and hauling ass ALL THE WAY to California! Its a new stage of my life, but I've always dreamed of living in Los Angeles, so I'm REALLY PUMPED about it.

I'm going to really miss the east coast, but I've had a solid 20 years living here, so I'm ready for a change of pace. All my friends who are on tour will be coming thru LA, so that will be nice to catch their bands when they are in town.

Keep an eye on my website for more updates soon! Keep in touch. peace. -C

hey all,

im on the way to connecticut right now with the IAN WALSH crew, so i figured I'd update a few things on my site.

I posted my TWITTER FEED on the hompage, so you all can see what I'm up to... I love using twitter beacuse it is like a timeline of my daily routine, and I love documenting all of the things I do, people I meet, and places I go. Hopefully you will follow me on Twitter!

I added the banner for a new clothing/accessories company who I'm endorsing called "Urband Knitfits"... my cousin Abigail actually started the company herself, and she sent me a really cool blue hand-knit wristband for me to wear when I play. You all should definitely check out what they are selling on their shop, I posted a link to their webstore on my LINKS page. Perfect gift ideas for the holidays!

I've also made plans to go to the NAMM show this year, in Anaheim, California. Last year was really amazing, so I knew I had to go back. If you are there, make sure to hit me up! I'll be there for the first 2 days of the show.

ALSO... special thanks to my friends over at SJC DRUMS for completely restoring my 60's Ludwig Supraphonic Snare Drum... it looks, sounds, and all around works 100% better than before. Here is a picture! I'll be using it at the next Ian Walsh show.

Until next time! -c

Lettuce SOLD OUT @ Paradise Rock Club, Boston, MA

WOW, I just saw the sickest concert!!

Last night was the ending night of Lettuce's New England mini-tour... they came through Boston's Paradise Rock Club last night.

I had been planing on going to the show for the past month, and I even went on the Web site to order tickets... but I kept on getting sidetracked to buying the tickets. To my dismay, time flew by so fast that I found myself without tickets DAY OF the show... I called the venue and it was SOLD OUT!

Although I was stoked about my favorite funk band selling out Paradise, I was genuinely sad about not having a ticket to get in.

Luckily, my friends over at Velour Music and Lettuce's own Adam Deitch were able to pull out the stops and help me get two tickets for the show at the last minute.

Long story short... I am SO appreciative of those guys helping me get in last night! Lettuce was SO TIGHT and EVERYONE in the venue was dancing their faces off. Exactly the way a good Lettuce show should be.

CONGRATS FELLAS
